Attic Breeze Attic Vent Replaces Failed Unit

Solar fan, installed in 2010, no longer functions.

The owner of this single family hom in Land O Lakes. FL contacted us to see if it is possible to repair the fan or if it had to be replaced. The fan was sixteen years old and there was really nothing that could be repaired. Our bid to replace the fan with an Attic Breeze solar attic fan was accepted.

A Basic Installation.

Replacing a failed solar attic vent with a new Attic Breeze unit is a quick, single-day project.

First, we gently lift and loosen the asphalt shingles around the old unit using a flat pry bar to expose the metal flange. Next, we remove the fasteners and lift the non-functioning solar fan off the roof deck.

After that, we scrape away old sealant and debris around the opening. Then, we set the new Attic Breeze fan over the opening, seal the flange with industrial silicone sealant, and secure it firmly to the deck.

Finally, we apply self-adhering underlayment directly over the flange, tucking its top edge beneath the upper shingles. To complete the job, we reinstall the remaining shingles from the bottom up to ensure proper overlapping and continuous water shedding.

Florida sets the pace for the rest of the country on building products, and nothing gets on a roof there on a manufacturer say-so. A licensed engineer or approved lab evaluates the product, and the Florida Building Commission reviews the results and lists it statewide. Attic Breeze roof-mount fans carry that listing, and the approval number goes straight onto a permit.
