How the Installation Process Works.
Step one is the free in-home estimate.
Free home evaluation.
A daylighting expert will visit your home to conduct a comprehensive evaluation with you, actively measuring light levels in lux or foot-candles.
Good daylight comes from the sky, not from the sun directly.
Multiple factordsare involved.
We will consider which roof slope works best for your home; additionally, we will evaluate the room you want to brighten up. Then, if applicable, we need to inspect the attic, because the distance from the ceiling to the roof is important.
We will give you a price with options.
We provide an on-site proposal after you and your daylighting expert define the scope of work. Therefore, we determine the final cost by evaluating all mentioned details.
Additionally, the specific daylight product you choose significantly affects the price, and we offer a wide variety of sizes and models.
Step Two is ordering and scheduling.
We have about 20 W-2 employees to choose from to get this work done. The scheduling process includes choosing the most qualified individual to get your work done promptly.

Step Three is the installation!
We will arrive at your home around 8 am. Then, we will lay down protective plastic below the installation site and a path to the installation site from the front door. The lead technician will make a chalk outline on the ceiling where the skylight will be installed. Once you approve that, we can get cutting! We take great care to control dust and debris.
- First, we cut through the ceiling and the roof.
- Next, we frame the shaft in lumber and insulate it.
- Then, we mount the skylight.
- Finally, we hang unfinished sheetrock in the shaft.
Afterward, we sub-contract a five-star drywall company to complete the mudding and texturing of the shaft. We try to be as "turn key" as possible; however, you will need to hire a painter after we finish.

One common issue is attempting to repair failed skylight seals. However, applying caulk between an acrylic dome and its frame causes two major problems.
- First, the caulk dramatically increases expansion and contraction stresses, causing premature cracking.
- Second, the caulk "glues" the dome to the frame, making separation virtually impossible without breaking it.
- Therefore, replacement becomes the only viable choice.
